SUBJETO + VERBO "BE" + VERBO PRINCIPAL -ING
[I/YOU/Juan...] [am/ is/ are] play-ingI am washing the dishes now.

NEGACIÓN
SUBJETO + VERBO "BE" + NOT + VERBO PRINCIPAL -ING
[I/YOU/Juan...] [am not / is not - isn't/ are not - aren't] play-ingI am not washing the dishes now.
My sister isn't studying Literature this year.
The children aren't playing outside at the moment.
INTERROGACIÓN
Es como la afirmación pero en el caso de la interrogación anteponemos el verbo: "be" y después sigue el sujeto.
VERBO "BE" + SUBJETO + VERBO PRINCIPAL -ING
[am/ is/ are] [I/YOU/Juan...] play-ingAre you washing the dishes?
Is your sister studying Literature this year?
Are the children playing outside right now?
SPELLING RULES
La mayoría de los verbos forman el Present Continuous con la terminación -ing, sin que cambie el tema del verbo.
play --> playing wash --> washing sing -->singing
Pero hay algunas exceptiónes:
1. En cuanto a los verbos que terminan en -e, tachamos la
take --> taking make --> making
2. Los verbos de una sílaba que terminan en Consonante - Vocal -Consonante (CVC) duplican el último consonante y después ponemos -ing.
swim --> swimming stop --> stopping drop --> dropping
Pero: travel --> travelling commit --> committing Tienen más de una sílaba pero duplican el último consonante porque terminan en CVC.
3. Los verbos que terminan en ie, cambian la "-ie" en "-y" y después ponemos -ing.
die -->dying lie -->lying
USOS
1. Para describir una acción que está teniendo lugar en este momento [ahora].My brother is doing his homework at the moment.
2. Para describir una tendencia o una acción que está sucediendo no absolutamente este momento pero en la actualidad - por ahora.
Are you still working for the same company this year?
3. Para describir una acción o evento futuros que ya están programados.
We're going on holiday tomorrow.
I'm meeting my boyfriend tonight.
4. Para declarar evolución, desarrolo.
More and more people are becoming vegetarian.
Your english is getting better and better.
5. Para describir una situación o evento temporales.
He usually PLAYS the drums [present simple], but he's playing bass guitar tonight. [present continuous]
The weather forecast was good, but it's raining at the moment.
6. Con "always, forever, constantly", para describir y enfatizar una sucesión de acciones repetidas que nos molestan.
Harry and Sally are always arguing!
You're constantly listening to music so loudly and I can´t concentrate on my studying.
